About Us
MY Theatre is an amateur musical theatre group for any young person aged 8 - 18, who can reach us at our rehearsal venue in Lancaster. We meet once a week during January to July, working as a group toward the annual staging of a full scale musical theatre performance.

MY Theatre is passionate about giving young people the opportunity and skills to shine. We're about more than just teaching kids how to do decent jazz hands, we know that being involved in theatre can give young people confidence, let them express themselves, and participate in performance in a safe and supportive environment.

Interested?
We ask anyone that wants to join us to perform an audition for us first. We do this as we believe that it's an important part of the process, as performers face many auditions in their careers (even amateur ones!). We are also limited with how many young performers we can support per production; so if one of our shows attracts a lot of potential performers an audition process will help us pick our cast.
We believe in a fair process that is equal for all, and will not use auditions to put up barriers for those who struggle to access performing arts.

To apply to join, or to ask any questions, please use our contact form or email at the bottom of this page.
Our Mission
MY Opportunity:
-
We provide more access to the arts and theatre for young people in our area.
-
We listen to our young people, and let them drive us forward
-
We are inclusive and welcoming, and we actively work to reduce barriers so all young people can be part of our group.

MY Confidence:
-
We work with each young person to develop their skills and passion for performing.
-
We know that theatre is not just about talent, and develop the confidence, communication, teamwork, and other key life skills of each of our young people.
-
We give each young person a voice, and let them feel acknowledged and important.

MY Talent:
-
We find a role for all young people passionate about theatre, and do not just focus on performance skills.
-
We welcome all young people to join, regardless of skills, talent, or ability, and we work on building the talent of all who join.
-
We recognise and reward those who work hard to build their skills, and use fair processes to give each young person an equal chance.

Meet The Team
Sophie Butler
Sophie is the Principal and Founder of local performing arts school ‘Sophie’s Academy of Musical Theatre’, as well as being a freelance choreographer and director.

She has a BA Hons in Music Theatre and has now involved in copious amounts of amateur musicals at the Lancaster Grand Theatre both on stage and off.

Sophie taught at PQA Preston for 5 years, eventually becoming the Musical Theatre Teacher. During her time there she choreographed and musically directed shows that have been performed on The West End.

At MY Theatre Sophie’s main role will be directing and choreographing. She works with children full time at her Musical Theatre Academy and cannot wait to extend that knowledge to our children at MY Theatre.
Anna Kenny
Anna first appeared on stage as a field mouse in Wind In The Willows at just 7 years old. She went on to join CATS Youth Theatre in Bolton and was a member there until she went to university at the age of 18.

When Anna started university she was desperate to get back on stage, so she joined a local am dram group and has now appeared in more than 40 productions! She has particularly enjoyed playing Julia in The Wedding Singer, Serena in Legally Blonde and Billie in Our House.

Anna is looking forward to helping with the day to day running of MY Theatre alongside Sophie and Richard.
Youth Theatre was a huge part of Anna's life growing up, so she can't wait to share this love and passion with the children in MY Theatre. She can't resist a song and dance so might need persuading to stay off stage!
Richard Euston
Richard is a charity law and finance expert, running a medium sized charity as his day job, and advising or acting as trustee for numerous others.

He tried the boards in amateur productions as a teenager, but quickly realised his talent was best used in a backstage role.

He'll be supporting MY Theatre with its admin and fundraising, helping to grow the organisation, and make it sustainable long term.

Richard is a passionate advocate for the arts and theatre, and is excited to work with Sophie and Anna to create a theatre group for kids that not only gives the kids a chance to perform, but also develops their confidence, communication, and provides them a safe space to be and express themselves.
